LCD Soundsystem and Belle & Sebastian are the two headliners, along with a lot of other great bands. The festival takes place on Treasure Island October 16th and 17th.
As teenagers, Saam Hagshenas and Jonathan Marks formed a band in the Midwest town of Rockford, Illinois. Eight years later, in Chicago, they become Hey Champ and add Pete Dougherty as the third member. The trio was signed by Lupe Fiasco’s label, 1st & 15th, in 2008. They have since been touring with everyone from Justice to Lupe himself.
Hey Champ will release their highly anticipated debut album Star on July 13 and play Popscene on July 15th.
Chief are Evan Koga, Mike Moonves, and brothers Danny and Michael Fujikawa. Born and raised in Los Angeles. They signed last year to Domino Records (label for Arctic Monkeys, Wild Beasts and She & Him) and have their debut LP coming out on June 21st.
Chief are playing at Hotel Utah on June 8th. From the little I’ve listened to them, it seems like one of those shows where you’ll back in a few years and not believe you saw them in such a small venue…
If you’re staying in San Francisco for Memorial Day Weekend it should be worth going to check out the Austin indie rock band Voxtrot. They are playing at the Great American Music Hall on May 29th.
Although the band has only been around 2003 this is actually their farewell tour. In a long letter on the band’s website, frontman Ramesh Srivastava lays out the reasons for the band’s dissolution: “The career path of Voxtrot was truly one of long, simmering build, explosion, and almost instantaneous decay. Slowly, I am learning to replace any feelings of regret with positive memories of how amazing the whole thing was, and how it has, in an unexpected way, fortified my character.”
