As teenagers, Saam Hagshenas and Jonathan Marks formed a band in the Midwest town of Rockford, Illinois. Eight years later, in Chicago, they become Hey Champ and add Pete Dougherty as the third member. The trio was signed by Lupe Fiasco’s label, 1st & 15th, in 2008. They have since been touring with everyone from Justice to Lupe himself.
Hey Champ will release their highly anticipated debut album Star on July 13 and play Popscene on July 15th.
Hot Hot Heat will be having a Los Angeles residency in June – performing a show at Bootleg Theater every Wednesday in June in support of upcoming release Future Breeds. In between these show they will be playing Popscene on June 24. The last time I saw Hot Hot Heat in San Francisco they sold out the Fillmore so seeing them at 330 Ritch should be treat.
I was so looking forward to seeing TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB opening up for Phoenix this weekend but looks like they will be in Europe still. San Francisco will now have to wait until May 6th to see them play at Popscene.
Phoenix is coming to The Catalyst in Santa Cruz on April 17th. Tickets have yet to go on sale and since their recent Fillmore show sold out in less than two minutes keep an eye out tickets.
Opening up for Phoenix will be Irish band TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB, who will be returning to San Francisco in May to play Popscene.
